Five signs your small business doesn’t need a copywriter

How to know you don’t need any help to grow your business

small business support; copywriting; central coast copywriter; small business success

You lucky duck. Your small business is flying, almost as if on its own. Kick up your heels my friend, charge your margarita glass and tick off the following from your list.

1. You don’t want any more sales, thank you

Copywriters help bring your small business to life through conversational, compelling, persuasive and interesting content that hits your target market right where they’re looking. It might be a blog post that provokes thought; a feature piece on your website about your company founder that puts the human touch behind the nuts and bolts; or a local profile like this one I wrote for Adrenaline Optometry, a new business in Terrigal, proving their point of difference in the market. All of these types of copy help answer your customer’s questions before they need to ask and will have them clicking ‘enquire now’ faster than you can say ka-ching.

2. You have lots of time on your hands

Your morning strolls along the beach, followed by an ocean view breakfast while perusing your favourite magazine and perhaps a spot of market shopping into lunch don’t need to be interrupted. Oh wait, hang on, did I just describe my perfect day? Let’s face it, if you’re a small business owner, time is not a luxury you have in abundance. It’s likely you’re juggling sales, marketing, accounts, finance, logistics and HR all in a day. Writing quality copy that sets your business apart from your competitors takes time and patience. Focus on the parts of running your business that you love and send the copywriting work my way, it’ll get you one step closer to that beach walk.

3. You don’t want to drive people to your website

If you’re confident that when people search for what you offer, you’re the only one in the results, then step back (and maybe enjoy that ocean view breakfast). But will your position at the top of Goggle stay there? The market researchers at statista found that 60 per cent of people research a brand online before making a purchase. You want to make sure you’re offering fresh, quality content to stay relevant to your market and at the top of their search results so you’re who they consider first when making a purchase decision. Professional copywriters can help you do that.

4. You’re a great writer who never makes mistakes

You’ve never been confused by an apostrophe placement, you’re all over avoiding misplaced modifiers and have never had to scratch your head when wondering if there they’re or their looks like it’s in the right spot. Much to the annoyance of my family and friends, I can and will spot a typo a mile away, and I will often make a note of it. Businesses, be warned. Excellent grammar and punctuation comes naturally to me, but I’ve also been trained in both a tertiary education and workplace setting (the latter much more fierce!). It’s second nature to many copywriters like me who get a kick out of helping ensure your business has the flow, look and reputation it deserves through the written word to thrive.

5. You’re not keen on supporting other small businesses

If you’re a small business not fussed on fostering a sense of community within your community, then that’s OK. But imagine how powerful the flow of businesses supporting businesses could be for your bottom line if you jumped on the bandwagon? Plus, it will make you feel good. Shopify research conducted after the pandemic settled showed that of those who reported shopping locally, 79 per cent said they did so to support their communities or protect local jobs. If you’re a local business on the Central Coast, you know how #supportlocal initiatives like the Coasties Card help local businesses to give back to locals who help the local businesses, and so the cycle continues. By hiring a local small business (like mine) to help yours, you’re being an integral part of that circle of support to push money and love back into the local economy.

If you ticked all of the above, then you’re on a roll, baby! If these points made you think, then reach out for a cuppa and we can chat through how I can help.
